Large Family traveling together

Hello OB Forum.

I have a family of 10 traveling from all parts of the US for my future-in-laws 40th anniversary.

it%26#39;s 8 Adults and 2 children under 4 yr.

we are looking at early June and would like to rent a house. none of us have ever been to the Outer Banks - So we are completely open to advice.

I have been looking at the Corolla Light resort because there seems to be plenty to do.

What are our other options? What towns have the most going on? The best restaurants? rainy-day options?

Thanks So much!

You will get many opinions here as to which area is better. Here are a few places to get you started since you know what types of activities you are interested in:

Go to the Dare County and the Currituck County websites. They will have lots of information and links about the Outer Banks overall.

Try some of the rental companies. Brindley Beach, Twiddy, Joe Lamb, Sun, Midgett - are just a few that cover the different areas from northern to southern OBX.

Try some of the Outer Banks websites like OBXConnection, planetouterbanks, visitcurrituck

Since you have mentioned Corolla, and that%26#39;s where I go, I will tell you what I know about it. The list of things to do includes climbing the lighthouse, visiting the wildlife center, touring the Whalehead Club, taking an off road trip to the 4X4 area to see the wild horses, crabbing in the sound, shopping, eating out, playing mini golf, playing regular golf, enjoying the beach, surf fishing.

For a group your size there are many housing options. Many have plenty to keep you busy on rainy days -- pool tables, puzzles, foosball, media rooms, book libraries, etc. Having one with a pool is great, especially if the young children are still in the napping stage (you can enjoy while they sleep) or if the water is too rough. My advice in this area though, is to look very soon. Many places are already booked.

Good luck on your search and I will try to answer and more questions you may have.

As previous poster said, everyone has there favorite OBX town. It all depends on what you are looking for. I typically go to OBX several times a year. My two favorite places are Ocracoke and the Kill Devil Hills/Nags Head area.

I like Ocracoke, because it is a quaint area, only accesible by ferry. Very laid back. Great place to go to do nothing but go to the beach and relax!!!

I like the Kill Devil Hills/Nags Head area when I want to be a little closer to all the action, i.e a variety of restaurants, shops, outlet shops, movie theater, bowling alley, go karts/mini golf, etc.

Nags Head is an easy drive for day trips to Hatteras, or Corolla. Its also only about 10/15min. from Manteo, which has the Elizbethan Gardens, the outdoor drama Lost Colony, and the NC Aquarium (small but very nice).

Where ever you choose I am sure you will love it!

  1. This is very useful information on wedding gift ideas. I am planning to arrange my nephew’s wedding anniversary party and searching for amazing Seattle venues. Got to know about few nice venues and planning to book the right one.
