I am traveling from Florida to Fairfax Va and would love to find some snow for my 9 year old to see. I am willing to go off course for a few hours to see snow. Whether it is going toward mountains I am willing.
Any suggestions
Where can I see snow
When will your be travelling?
Your best chance to see snow will be in mountains, ie. Great Smoky Mountain National Park (between NC %26amp; TN). Check their website, www.nps.gov/gesm/planyourvisit/weather.htm or call 865 4361200 X630 for current conditions. As you travel in Va, your chances for snow might be near Harrisonburg, Massanutten (depending on when you are travelling, Massanutten may have real or man-made snow), and areas around Shenandoah National Park (www.nps.gov/shen). Of course, there%26#39;s always a chance there will be snow in the Fredericksburg, or Northern Va areas. Hope you find enough to make a great snowman.
Where can I see snow
We live in the Smoky Mountain area and your best bet for snow is honestly the Blowing Rock and Boone areas. They are forcasting snow for tomorrow.
Have fun and good luck
No snow in Northern Virginia-and none in the Shenandoah valley area unless you go to a ski resort for the ';fake'; stuff! Here is a web cam for Shenandoah National Park: www.instacam.com/showcam.asp?id=LRAY1%26size=L
Best luck is Dolly Sods/Canaan Valley West Virginia-as it is the highest valley in elevation east of the Mississippi, but even there right now, there doesn%26#39;t seem to be snow on the ground. Web cam: http://www.fsvisimages.com/doso1/doso1.html
But you can see snow on the slopes at Timberland in the background!
You may have to stop at a resort for a few hours of tubing.
No snow in the forecast...I think we are done for this year.
I second the Boone and Blowing Rock area, but you%26#39;re about to get out of the ';snow season'; for NC. There are several ski slopes where you can see the fake stuff and I would suggest going snow tubing while you%26#39;re there. Hawk%26#39;s Nest offers a snow tubing park and it is a lot of fun for kids and adults alike. It reminds me of sledding in my back yard when I was a little girl but the hills are much better at the snow tubing park!
Ohio has plenty of snow, free for the taking..........IF you can get here.
Sorry, just trying to be funny and cheer myself up by looking at vacation ideas for the summer! Good luck with your snow hunting.
Gotta agree with the poster above. Here in Ohio the snow is above my knees with another 10 hours of snow forecast.
Can%26#39;t wait to be in NC this summer though!
Mt. Mitchell (highest peak east of the MS) would be a good bet. Check first though with the Blue Ridge Parkway office to make sure the Parkway is open to get there, (828) 298 0398.
The Boone-Blowing Rock area has gotten 3 to 4 inches of snow today. The ski slopes will be making snow also. It is cold right now.
