Outer Banks Large Family Vacation

We are searching for a one week rental home to accommodate an extended family gathering of 3 immediate families and a grandpa who will be independently traveling from Idaho, Arizona, Colorado and central North Carolina. Our plan is to come together on June 14. Preference is for an ocean front home in an uncrowded area on Hatteras Island somewhere between North Avon and Buxton. Quiet, unassuming (not really very interested in a high tech McMansion on the beach) reasonably priced, and kid friendly are a good match for our bunch. Anyone have ideas?

Did you try searching obxconnection.com? Of course, that may confuse you more than ever, at least that%26#39;s what happened to me. As I wrote in a previous post, Jordan at Hatteras Realty was very good at answering my questions, from mosquitos to jellyfish. Good luck, I%26#39;ll be watching for responses to your post to see if I can get more insight. This is a great forum!

Thanks for the feedback OhLynne. We will check out obxconnections.com. I looked at your other NC forum posts. It sounds like you%26#39;re doing a very similar search to ours. Just curious - what were the factors that caused you to decide upon June for your Outer Banks vacation? For us, it is primarily dictated by scheduling considerations for our entire group. But, we are hoping that timing proves to be serendipitous as far as weather, cost, and other things are concerned. Any additional insights on mid-June at the Outer Banks?

Our dates were changed from June until July because of the scheduling for the rest of the group. Hopefully, you will post reviews when you return and give us some good pointers. We are still trying to decide between Corolla, Kitty Hawk/Nags Head, or Avon. If it ever warms up in Ohio, we%26#39;ll have to get together and take a vote. I sure hope there are rentals still available by then. Chill factor is -20 right now. Sure makes the OBX look inviting!

N. Avon to Buxton isn%26#39;t alot of area but you should be able to find what you want. Also don%26#39;t rule out Frisco. It is only a minute or so past Buxton. That time of year you shouldn%26#39;t have to worry too much about the crowds. Avon has a wider selection of houses but the Buxton/Frisco area (15 - 20 minutes south of Avon) is what you truely want.

Call Hatteras Realty and let them know what you want. Don%26#39;t rule out a house that is close to the beach but not oceanfront. We stayed in a nice 4 bedroomer that was less than 20 seconds to sand last June and cost us less than $900. Better than the $1600 for a comparable oceanfront.
