Tips for family trip to Western North Carolina

My family of four (kids are 11 and 8) is planning to visit

western North Carolina mountains / Asheville area in June.

Any tips, suggestions as far as sight-seeing, activities and accomodations would be appreciated. We hope to stay in a cabin, and enjoy horseback riding and whitewater rafting.

The best whitewater rafting will be the Nantahala Forest area.Type that into google and you%26#39;ll get a zillion hits. There is also some whitewater action near Brevard in the Pisgah National Forest but it%26#39;s a little more sedate. Try www.vrbo.com or www.cabins.com for cabin info. Best wishes.

Typical Asheville activity is to visit the Biltmore Estate, if you%26#39;ve never toured the estate, I do recommend, but the kids may get bored with that. You should definitly make a stop in the town of Blowing Rock NC, not far from your destination. Enjoy the views of the Mtns and take in Grandfather Mtn if time allows, if you have lots of time, Brevard Co, NC is home to well over 200 waterfalls, many off the beatne path. Google NC WATERFALLS, there is great site to hiking some of the more gorgeous falls that are not on the ';tourist circuit';. Enjoy NC

Check out the falls on Horsepasture river.

Also, Ghost Town in the Sky will be open in Maggie Valley. This kids should love it.
