We will be in Wilmington in June. It will be myself, three other adults and three kids ages, 14, 12 and 10. Most of us love seafood (not the fried stuff!), but we will need something else on the menu for the two younger kids. We%26#39;d like a nice place, but not stuffy and it%26#39;s got to have great seafood. What would you recommend?
A family restaurant that serves good seafood?
I like Dock Street for fun and funky seafood. Elijah%26#39;s is very good. It%26#39;s really nice to sit outside by the river and people watch while you eat. In Carolina Beach, Michael%26#39;s has good casual seafood. In Sounthport, Provisions is a fun place for lunch and watch the boats go by.

the bluewater grill at wrightsville beach might be the place you desire.. great views, beautiful atmosphere, and shorts and flip-flops abound.. it is a nice mix of styles.. hieronymus seafood is also quite good. just to let you know the style of seafood in wilmington is ';calabash stlye'; battered and fried.. but all restaurants will do broiled, baked, and some grilled.. if you are looking for a bit more elegant.. my favorite seafood in wilmington hands down is the bone fish grill on market st.. everything I have had there is superb, and I never order anything fried.. hope this helps..
I had actually looked up Elijah%26#39;s and Provisions before I even posted this question and both were written down as a possible choice---glad they both got a mention here. Which is better Provisions or the Bluewater gill? Also, I just went and looked up bone fish grill and it sounds wonderful too. Too few days and too many restaurants! I%26#39;d say we will be in Wilmington for at least 2 days. Thanks for the suggestions!
Bluewater is very nice and you can sit outside and watch the boats go by. I personally prefer Provisions. It is a seafood shack in every sense of the word. It is not fancy but there is no place like it. The (steamed) shrimp are very good.
Also, just an FYI, Bonefish is a chain resturant. It is good but does not give you a local feel.
Crabcakes at Bluewater are excellent. My husband loves their tuna. Owned by the same people that own Eddie Romanellis, Henrys, and Oceanic. Any of those are good choices but my personal favorite is Bluewater.
I would say %26#39;no%26#39; to Bonefish. It%26#39;s a chain and too expensive.
Wrightsville Grille is a newer restaurant near the beach (In the Galleria Shopping Center) that has much better seafood than most of the places I%26#39;ve been in town. Crab Cakes are their specialty and they%26#39;re HUGE.. Have enough of a varied menu to satisfy more picky eaters.
Yum!!! Everything sounds so good! Bonefish%26#39;s menu looked really good, but I think I do prefer a local place, that%26#39;s what I like about traveling, trying the local restaurants. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
We liked Pilot House in downtown Wilmington. There are two great porches (one enclosed) with views of the Battleship.
A very local place is Hieronymous Seafood Sp? on Market street. It is very close to Bonefish Grill (If you have an extra night to eat out Bonefish is great). For a little more upscale seafood place Catch downtown is fantastic but it is only open for lunch. Where are you staying in Wilmington (downtown, Wrightsville, Carolina Beach)?
