Hello there,
I am travelling on the Crescent train between New Orleans and DC in September this year.
I intend to spend approx 9 days on the Crescent between New Orleans and DC - I hope to visit New Orleans, Birmingham, Atlanta, as these are on the route, but Im not sure where to visit after that.
Would you have any idea of where not to miss, or would it just be best to head straight to DC after Atlanta which would give me more time in DC, Philly, NY and New England areas?
No offence intended - Im just not sure where to visit in the Carolinas or Virgina region - I suppose I would have around 3 days, so only one place is realistic - where would you reccomend along the train line or a connecting line? - one at Greensboro?
I basically have around 1 month from New Orleans up to Boston. I realise that its tight schedule - would you say that 3 weeks between DC and Boston is OK?
May be better to ask yourselves this instead of people from that area.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated.
Happy New Year.

I%26#39;d suggest stopping in Salisbury, NC. Salisbury has a beautifully restored Historic Downtown area, and the historic train depot has been the location for movies - most recently, Leatherheads with George Clooney! They also have been building an art community in the area near the train tracks - converting old warehouses into funky art galleries! You can find more info here: http://www.visitsalisburync.com/
If the Crescent stops in Kannapolis NC, that would be a fun stop too! That is where I work, and I love the Williamsburg-style Cannon Village. There%26#39;s a 1950 movie theater called The Gem that is very quaint. And there%26#39;s also the NC Research Campus under construction - all there within walking distance of the Kannapolis Train Station.
