Maggie Valley - Things to do/day trips

We are staying in Maggie Valley the week of April 5-12. We have 2 kids ages 8 and 6.

We are looking for things to do while we are there/

Any suggestions? Biltmore House, Dollywood - are the reasonable distances away for a day trip?

Local hiking trails? Is ski season over in March?

Any ideas you have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

After you do all that check the touristy things in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge if you have any time left over.

oops, my bad. if you are coming in March the Blue Ridge Parkway may or may not be open. Rafting is good if we have temps in the 70s.

We get most of our snow in March, skiing could be available, check before you go.

Best bet is a get hiking guide to the Pisgah National Forest or GSMNP. Max Patch Bald is spectacular for a day hike.

Have fun.

Welcome to TA!

Both Deep Creek and Cataloochee are great places to see in the park that won%26#39;t be very crowded. I%26#39;ve heard good things about the Cherokee Museum, Oconaluftee Indian Villiage, and ';Unto these hills'; attractions in Cherokee.

I%26#39;d recommend spending an evening on Main St. in downtown Waynesville. It%26#39;s been designed for enjoyable walking with decoative street lamps, restaurants, sidewalk musicians, coffee shops, etc.

Visit the Wheels Through Time museum while it%26#39;s still in Maggie. They are planning to re-locate soon. Even if you%26#39;re not a motorcycle enthusiast (I%26#39;m not), it%26#39;s very interesting.

Sorry, but Ghost Town in the Sky does not re-open until May 2 according to their website. It is lots of fun, though. We love the lift best of all, I think!

I thought the Biltmore was great, but I haven%26#39;t been in 13 years. We%26#39;re talking about going back this summer.

We enjoyed the ';Unto These Hills'; outdoor drama in Cherokee very much. We also like to picnic on the river in Cherokee, and let the kids splash in the water.

We visit Gatlinburg, TN as a day trip when we are in Maggie Valley. I%26#39;ve always liked the ';Village'; area in gatlinburg.

We also have season passes to Dollywood. It%26#39;s super! Sometimes we stay overnight in Pigeon Forge, but we have made it a day trip several times, too. It%26#39;s about and hour and and half on I-40 back to Maggie Valley, assuming the weather and traffic cooperate. Wonderworks is great for the kids, too.

Hope you have a great trip!
